Question:

How do you connect a 2 way switch circuit?

Anyone who knows electricity here? Do you know how to create a 2 way switch circuit? For example, there is this load or applicant such as a light bulb and it is connected to 2 switches. When you press Switch A, the bulb lights up. Of course, if you press Switch A again, it will turn the light bulb off.

However, after turning on the bulb using Switch A and you go over to Switch B and press it, it will turn the light bulb off.

Likewise, you can do this the other way round and it will work just as perfectly.

How do you connect Switches A and B to the applicant like the light bulb so that it can be turned on and off by both switches?

  1. Most switches have an input and two outputs. Connect power to switch A's input and connect one output to one of B's outputs and the other output to B';s other output. Then connect B's input to the bulb or whatever.

  2. There are special switches used, and special wire involved.  The two switches each connect one crcuit or another. The wire would have 4 conductors, including the ground wire.

This would be much easier to explain wih a picture.  I went looking to find one online, and I located an incorrect diagram!

When you buy a "Two Way" switch, it should include a tiny wiring diagram, that would look something like this:

  3. Look up on the web

Wiring a Three way switch" You are describing  what is called a three way circuit. (yes, it only has 2 switches in it however)

You will need some 3 conductor plus ground cable to do this correctly, and two 3 way switches.

  6. It's easy if you follow this guide- http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/two_wa...

  7. This is called Three Way Switch wiring.  Take a look here:

You use two SPDT switches and connect them as shown in the link.

  8. Actualy I think it is a 3way switch. Type 3 way electrical into your search engine. I got good instructions this way.
