  1. As mentioned earlier, the best route to take is to use HDMI to go from your player to your receiver, and then another HDMI from your receiver to your TV.  If your receiver is on the older age, however, it's likely you won't have HDMI ports!  In that case, depending on the output connections on your blu-ray player, you can use an optical cable (typically labeled S/PDIF and covered with a rubber grommet), or a coaxial cable with RCA type jacks from the COAX output.

However, as you've written that you have a DVD surround sound amplifier - if you've got one of those home-theather-in-a-box systems where the DVD player is also the receiver, more than likely there are no ways to actually get digital surround sound to the receiver.  You may have standard RCA inputs for Left and Right speakers (red and white), and you'll be able to get sound out of your speakers, but unfortunately, it will not be true surround sound.  In this case, you would need to upgrade your receiver.

  2. The only way to truly experience the full 1080P picture and sound is to use an HDMI cable. And that is from your Blu-Ray player to your receiver, then also one from your receiver to your T.V.

  3. The best way in though HDMI, depending on what inputs you have.
