  1. More detail would be helpful...

If you are using a miniDV based camcorder, you will connect it using firewire (not USB) to import the video. USB is used only for transferring stills off the memory card or web-streaming (if the camera allows for that capability).

If you are using a hard drive or flash memory camcorder, you will use USB to copy the files... like copying files off any other USB mass storage device. JVC sometimes also allows DV/firewire/IEEE1394/i.Link connections to hard drive based camcorders. Some JVC hard drive camcorders use a modified MPEG2 file type, (.MOD. I think), so you will need the converter that came on the CD in the box with the camcorder.

If you are using a DVD based camcorder, you can take the DVD out of the camcorder and put it in the DVD drive of your computer (if it is a DVD drive) and you will rip the video using something like HandBrake: http://handbrake.fr/

If you do not have a DVD drive in your computer, you will need to get an Analog/Digital bridge

If you only have USB: http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us...

    If you have firewire: http://canopus.com/products/videoconvers...

Warning: DVD based camcorders provide the WORST possible video quality for editing. MiniDV tape is best; hard drive and certain flash memory is next best. DVD based camcorder video is worst.

  2. follow the instructions

  3. Read the instructions that came with the camera, or research the instructions on line.

  4. check out their website.  there's a tutorial on how to connect to your pc.
