How do you connect a laptop to a tv with a mini-to-RCA cable?

i know how to connect it but how do you get the picture/sound to appear on the tv?

Use your remote or the TV menu to change your inputs.  There may be multiple video inputs to choose from.  Give each a few seconds to detect the signal.  If there is no signal on that input it should indicate a no signal condition.  Then try the next.

You need a video cable to get video and an audio cable to get audio.

Depending on the capabilities of your laptop and your TV, you can use

VGA

HDMI

DVI (Digital)

Composite or S-Video
