How do you connect two phones together?

I want to connect two phones together without plugging them into the landline. I want to use them as kinda a intercom.

The easiest way would be to connect them with regular jacks with 2 conductor wire between the 2 phones. At one of the jacks, connect a 6v lantern battery to the 2 wires connecting the phones. You can talk, but can't make them ring.
