  1. on top

  2. You need proper fire bricks for the job and these don't normally have frogs (depressions), so the problem doesn't arise.

  3. I wouldn't trust any advice you got from here.. there's to many sicko's in this world who think it'd be funny to dish out the opposite answer.  I'd go on google

    :o)

  4. Do not try to 'construct' bricks for a fireplace. The actual bricks that come in contact with the flame are called firebricks. They are specially dried and fired to prevent them from spalling, exploding, or disintegrating when heated up by the fire. It is mostly the moisture content that is a concern here but also the mixture of the clays and the intensity of the drying that make firebricks.

  5. I am not sure but I would recomend you find some one that does as if you get it wrong you will have smoke coming back into the room

  6. On the top.

  7. The hollow is called a frog. Frog up or frogs down is all down to the individual.

If you're putting down a bed of motar the conventional way frogs down is best, if your using a the Bricky tool then frogs up is easier. Fill the frogs first.

You could buy extruded bricks; just 3 holes and no frog, these are ideal for use with the Bricky tool.

    Have fun
