How do you convert MOD. to MPG. files?

i have JVC harddiskdrive everio videos, and i want to upload them youtube. i found another question like this for everio and people said they had to convert the it from mod. to mpg. files. i understand wat they are saying, but my question is how? please help

Ok, download the files to your computer and then change the extensions from .MOD to .MPG and they will play just fine.  I do it all the time, though sometimes I wonder if there is a reason I should look for a "converter" as maybe the video will look better?  Dunno.
