How do you convert a Mini DVD to the Computer?

Question

I own a camcorder that uses mini DV tapes and i have no problem getting the footage onto the computer. My friend, on the other hand, has a camcorder that records on one of those mini DVDs.

How do you convert the mini DVD into a computer where it can be edited? I believe the mini DVD was finalized on the camera. Is that a problem too?

Welcome to the problematic world of AVCHD recordings.  AVCHD camcorders are very easy to use, but it is very hard to capture and edit the video files.

If the miniDVD camcorder has a firewire port, you can capture the video exactly the same way as you do with your miniDV camcorder.  If not, there should be a disc with software that came with the camcorder.  Follow the owner's manual for this.

If the disc can not be found or the software does not work, you can try searching for a software program to capture the video vis USB form the camcorder, but you may not find any.  Yahoo will not allow us to post links to anything that may help you in finding this software.  You have to search on your own.
