  1. Get AVS Video Converter, it can rip and burn personal DVDs, convert video, split, join, edit, rotate, apply effects, transfer, copy! All key video formats are supported! This is the best tool I' ve been used.

  2. Hey there!

Ok done a little searching, it can be done.  You need a DvD to MP3 converter.  I suspect that freeware is available.  If the moviecodec link is no help, download dot com is a nifty search engine for finding freeware (just be sure to tick the free box).

The effect on the sound quality of the converted audio would depend upon the sample sizes taken (the DvD would have great sound quality but the conversion may degrade it a little-alot).

To find free converter software you may have to wade through a lot of useless programs, but fight the good fight and i'm sure you will find what ya need ;)

I don't think your DvD will be effected in anyway by doing this.

P.S 1st time adding web addys to a post so i'm v sorry if it hasn't worked (fingers crossed i'm gonna click the done button).
