  1. 1 Liter = 61.02374 Cubic Inch

    Here's a good calculator:  http://www.purolator-lp.com/volume.htm

  2. Like Brandon B says, liters *are* engine size.  It's the volume swept by all the pistons in one Otto cycle (2 revolutions).  To convert to cubic inches, multiply the number of liters by 61.  So a 5 liter engine is 305 cubic inches, a 3 liter engine 183 cubic inches, etc.

It's a measure of how much fuel/air mixture is burned when all the cylinders have fired once, so it's a rough measure of the power potential of the engine.

If you men "convert into horsepower" there is no reliable way.  The formula requires the rpm and the pressure (BMEP) in the cylinders.

  3. ... Liters are the engine size... 5.0 is 5 liters.. 3.5 is 3.5 liters.. 3400 is 3.4 liters
