How do you convert sine, cosine and tangent ratios into decimals without using a calculator?

  1. Do you need to convert into decimals ?  If they are already ratios, it's not hard to work with them.  For example, you could use division rule for fractions or if working with Pythagorean identity, you can solve without a calculator.

    If you really need to convert, for example 2/5, do long division where 2 is under the division symbol and 5 is on the outside.  Place a decimal point after the 2, then add 2 zeros and divide, so it looks like 5 going into 200.  Finish dividing and make sure that you bring the decimal point up into the quotient.
