My cousin gave me some tamales that her friend got from a latin food store and I have no clue how to cook them. I've looked it up on line but I've found so many different ways to do it that I don't know what the best way is. The tamales are frozen.

  1. First of all, do not defrost them or they may become soggy. To steam tamales, in a very large Dutch oven, stand  the tamales upright in a steamer basket. (Don't pack them in too tightly, but fill all the spaces.) Place at least 1-1/2 inches of water in the bottom. Bring to boiling. Cover Dutch oven. Reduce heat to medium. Steam until tamales easily pull away from corn husks and the dough is spongy.

To reheat refrigerated or frozen tamales, steam them as directed above, allowing 8 to 10 minutes for refrigerated tamales or about 15 minutes for frozen tamales or until heated through. Tamales can also be reheated in the microwave still wrapped in the husks. Cook each refrigerated tamale on 100 percent power (high) about 1 minute or until heated through. Cook each frozen tamale on 70 percent power (medium-high) for 1-1/2 to 2 minutes or until heated through.

  2. If they are already cooked just defrost in fridge overnight and either bake @ 350 for about 20 min or so, or micro for a couple covered with a paper towel
