How do you cook tofu???

Question

welll i was in the store about to purchase some tofu but when i picked it up it felt like jello and i just dont get how you cook it??? does it taste good?? its not meat right??

First what kind of tofu is it? Firm, soft, silken, etc?

For firm you can bake it, fry it, boil it, bread it, stuff it, BBQ! You can make a stir-fry with other veggies, put it in soup, scramble it with veggies and nutrional yeast and make tofu scramble.

I love it in strips that have been marinated in teriyaki, then baked in the oven. Don't forget to properly drain the tofu.

Most usually fry it using the tempura batter that you buy in the store (lighter batter than using flour), others will marinate it as you would meat, and let it sit in the marinade and then add it in with whatever you  are woking..cooking etc. I prefer the tempura method..but if it's a soup the kind you bought tastes really good..reminds me of the texture of a hard boiled egg (the white part).

you can buy jello-ey type, semi hard, harder, it depends on what your cooking. you can stir fry it, put it in chunks and cook it in spaghetti sauce,  make tofu burgers. there are many ways, i hope this helps! try veganwolf.com they should have alot of info.

tofu is a traditional chinese recipe. it is not meat, it is made out of soy beans. most chinese eat it without cooking it. However, my mom cook it with soy sause and a tea spoon of the chili sause. And my mom also said you cannot cook it more than 20 minutes.

Honestly i haven't tried To-Fu but i would love to.

I dont know what other recipes you can do for the tofu you just bought since Im used to the firm and extra firm tofu. It isnt meat at all. It kinda have the texture of chicken and taste pretty good. I really love tofu.

Anyways, next time you buy a tofu, I suggest you buy the firm one. The firm one can be put into many dishes and a great meat substitute.

Well I love tofu and no it's not meat! It feels like jello cause it's in water. When you open it drain the water out and then go from there! I usually like to cut it up into mid-sized squares and bread it then bake it like chicken (Way better that chicken!!) It's delicious, you should try it!!

You can fry it,  I personally do not like it hot, I eat it cold right out of the package. Some people are really turned off by it because of the texture, but I really like the taste. No it is not meat, it does contain a lot of protein though.

thaw it

break it into whatever size pieces you want for like a stir fry

add it to a stir fry and heat it through

add whatever sauce you want

My mom cooks tofu. She just puts it on the stove and cooks it like meat. Then she puts teriaki sauce on it. and no its not meat. lol.

Buy some dry wall. Scrape some into a pan and add a little water. Heat for a few minutes and then let sit.

~ I love Tofu.  There is so many things you can do with it.  There are Tofu cook books you can get to help you out that will offer tons of options.  It will also teach about what all the different Tofu's are good for.

I personally like one called Tofu meatloaf.

You buy the extra firm and freeze it.  Then thaw it and squeeze out all the water.  Mix the dry Tofu with dijon mustard, onion, salt, pepper, soy sauce, garlic and lots of parsley in a bowl.  Put it in a cooking pan like a bread pan size 4x8.  Pat it down so there is no air and cook for 45 minutes at 400 degrees.  Put ketchup on top and oh la la!

Tofu is pretty much jello, i hate the stuff, it tastes bad! Soy is better, it tastes and feels like meat, but there is no meat in it. Go pick up some soy food :-D

We just had tofu this evening.  I drained it, chopped it up into about 1 inch square chunks, then sprayed the pan with olive oil spray & sauteed the tofu for 3 minutes on medium heat.  Added garlic & ginger, then set it aside.  I sauteed a bunch of other veggies and added some sauce and stirred the tofu into it.  It was an Asian type of sauce, and we ate it over pasta.

Tofu just absorbs whatever flavors are around it, so it just tasted like ginger & garlic & sauce.  Its texture is similar to pasta (maybe a little softer & lighter), if you get the extra firm type of tofu.
