  1. You obtain a copyright automatically when you create something.

I took my $6 hamster to a vet

she gave me aspirin and a $125 check

I now own the copyright to this work I received it automatically. (by magic I guess.)  But since anyone on yahoo can see it - the first biter to register the copyright (to claim they wrote it)  becomes the defacto copyright holder.

So you guard your work until you have applied and received from the library of Congress proof that you are the creator of the work.  You can do an entire cd for the same cost as one song

  2. Go to the Library of Congress website. Download the PDF file for copyright application. Fill it out, send it in with your money order for the filing fee and wait about 6 months. It should be registered by then. That simple.

  3. My heart goes out to you.

I was in the same situation - and learned a few things.....

Firstly, everyone is an "expert"and I got so much useless information and "advice" the whole experience was made much worse,

and secondly, there's a great free Child Custody Library website at http://childcustodylibrary.info which really helped me - and I got everything easily and sim[ply sorted out with their help.

    Doe sthis help please?

My very best wishes and apologies for any typing errors - my eyesight is none too good, sadly.

    J.L.

  4. You hire a patent attorney; most retainers start at $1,000 or more, depending on where you live.  If your idea or invention is worth it, it is a great investment in protectioning your right because a filed copywrite or patent filing is complicated and takes years to accomplish.
