Question:

How do you correct arch strain while running/walking?

I just recently started getting back in to running and I've noticed recently that the arch area of my left foot starts to hurt some whenever I point my foot out. To give you a better idea, the pain starts near the instep of the heel and ends towards the ball of my pinky toe. Any suggestions, feasible remedies or other ideas?

  1. You may have plantar faciatis.  It is a stretching of the plantar facia (arch).  There is no real cure, however, you can go to a podiatrist and get prescription orthotics.

If you do not go to the doctor you should alternate heat and cold in 15 minute intervals after a run.  Take an anti-inflamatory like asprin or motrin for pain and swelling.  Make sure you wear shoes with adequate arch support.

  2. Hi Lot of stretching and custom made innersoles

  3. You need to go to a running shoe store and talk to them.  You need a shoe with better arch supports.

  4. Maybe do some exercises, sounds like your feet are just sore.  Trying pointing, then flexing reps.  Maybe 50 - 100 everynight.  And get some insoles.
