The point P(6, 1) lies on the curve y = √x - 5. If Q is the point (x, √x - 5), use a scientific calculator to find the slope of the secant line PQ (correct to six decimal places) for the following values of x.

i get how to set it up, but i can't figure out the 6 decimal places.

my answer is x*x.x*x so i'm only getting 3 decimal places, so how do i get 6 decimcal places??

i tried filling in 3 extra 0's at the end, but it's not the correct answer.

how can i get to 6 on my graphing calculator.

thanks.

  1. Well, you didn't give the points...

But you could plug in the slope formula:

    (Sqrt(x-5)-1)/(x-6)

And then put your table on ask and put the points in. When it brings up the slope at whichever x coordinate you put in, just move over so the y is highlighted and it'll have it to like 8 or 9 decimals.
