  1. Vegas Matt has the correct answer.

    'nough said.

  2. there arent really any rules. just that the 8 ball is in the middle.

and the alternating strips and solids is kind of flawed because its 2 solids on the outside, and thats kind of tilting it in the favor of solids.

this is how i do it, just so theres not 2 solids on the corners, its kidna weird though. s= sold and t= strip and 8 = (obviosuly) the 8 ball

                 t

              s   s

             t  8  t

           s  t  t  s

          t  s  t  t  s

again, its just so there isnt 2solids or stripes on the corners and its still symmetrical until the end.

  3. 1 solid

    2stripes

    1solid the 8 1 solid

    stripe-solids-stripe-stripe

    solid-stripe-solid-stripe -solid

  4. Matt nailed it.  It's very simple.  8-ball in the middle and the back two corners should be different suits.  That's it.  Anything above and beyond that is personal preference.  These are BCA/WPA world-standardized rules, of course.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

P.S. Just to be fair, I looked into other rules for this matter.  VNEA is the same as BCA.  IPT is the same as BCA, except for having the one-ball as the apex ball.  APA just says "8-ball in the center" and leaves it open after that.

  5. All u have to remember is put number

1 yellow ball in front of V shape,

number 9 to the left of it, 14 to the right of it (second row)

and then alternate solid-stripe filling the rack...

make sure 8 ball is in the middle

  6. The one ball goes in the front, 8 in the middle. You should alternate stripes and solids around the outside, and for the 2 remaining balls, you should place the stripe to the left and the solid to the right. An example:

                                                   1

                                                 9  10

                                               2   8   3

                                            11 12 4  13

                                           5  14  6  15 7

  7. The only real "rule" for a game of 8 ball is that the 8 ball be placed in the middle of the rack. A game of 8 ball or rotation takes a three-sided, or triangular shaped, rack. This procedure is for the color of standard billiard (pool) balls and is also used for any game of billiards except 9 ball.

There is a very simple way to remember how to rack the balls for a game of 8 ball. A lot of people will tell you to alternate solid and stripe, solid and stripe. The following is the proper method to rack the ball for a game of 8 ball.

    1. Start by placing the solid yellow 1 ball in the front V of the 8-ball rack with the 8-ball rack placed so that the front V is over the pool table “dot” at the end of the billiard (pool) table where you rack the balls.

    2. Place the striped yellow 9 ball on the left side behind the solid yellow 1 ball. This maintains the solid stripe sequence and the balls are color coded. If you alternate the solid and stripe of each color, it’s easy to remember. Just use the solid color first.

    3. Using numeric order, place the solid blue 2 ball behind the striped yellow 9 ball, maintaining the solid-strip format.

    4. Place the striped blue 10 ball behind the solid blue 2 ball, maintaining the color format.

    5. Next, place the solid red 3 ball behind the striped blue 10 ball, which will fill the left side of the rack.

    6. Place the striped red 11 ball to the right of the solid red 3 ball, going across the back side of the 8-ball rack.

    7. Place the solid purple 4 ball to the right of the striped red 11 ball.

    8. Place the striped purple 12 ball to the right of the solid purple 4 ball.

    9. Place the solid orange 5 ball in the right corner to the right of the striped purple 12 ball.

    10. Place the striped orange 13 ball in front along the right bar of the 8-ball rack in front of the solid orange 5 ball.

    11. Place the solid green 6 ball in front of the striped orange 13 ball.

    12. Place the striped green 14 ball in front of the solid green 6 ball. This will fill the outsides of the 8-ball rack.

    13. Place the solid black 8 ball in the forward opening of the rack.

14.Place the solid burgundy 7 ball and striped burgundy 15 ball behind the 8 ball.

  8. Most people will tell you that the one ball goes in the front of the rack with the V facing away from you, on the black dot, in the center of the table on the end with the dot. The other end, as you know, is for breaking the balls.

The racked balls is preferential most of the time having the eight ball in the center behind the one and its two neighbors...

    Example:

                1

              9  10

2   8  4 etc as star; (or solid), stripe and so on.

Stripes are also called "big ones" by older folks. Just remember a fat stomach peeking out from under a shirt is a big one and think of it as a stripe and belly.

                                                            And "little ones" are solids.

The rest has been said here already so no need to repeat it! hope this helps.

PS: A tight rack is when you press the balls up toward the head or the one ball. this tightens up the rack and makes the balls harder to scatter for your opponent if playing competitively. Lift the rack from the back of the triangle rack-the back or flat side is closest to you.

  9. The game's called "8 Ball", and to rack the balls correctly, you place the 8 in the center, one ball of each group at the 2 back corners, and arrange all the other balls randomly. It does not matter where the numbers go, since the numbers are totally arbitrary. And if you place a solid or stripe in both of the bottom corners, the rack is WRONG.
