Question:

How do you cover up deep chipping from a sink?

I just moved into a one bedroom apartment. It's got some issues here and there (light carpet staining, dinged linoleum). Most of the small issues I don't really care about, but the sink has some really unsightly chipping. I really doubt my apartment complex would completely replace the sink, as it works fine. My lease says no painting of the walls, so I assume fixtures too.

I have called the landlord and I will see what options I have. But if she says there's nothing to be done, is there anything on earth that could work?

  1. There is touch up paint for chipped sinks, available in different colours.

Sold in little bottles with their own little brushes attached to the cap.

You might have to do a bit of sanding around the chipped area to make sure the paint sticks.

Home Depot, Rona, Home Hardware have it available.

  2. No painting of the walls means just that. It has nothing to do with fixtures. The only thing I can tell you to do is go to a paint store or Home Depot and by expoxy white paint that's make for sinks. In come in a kit for about $30.00 and makes it look almost new again that's all you can do for now to keep it from chipping.

  3. MAKE A MAINT. REQUEST,ASK THEM TO FILL IN THE CHIPS WITH EPOXY SINK&TUB REPAIR.IT COMES IN A SMALL CLEAR BOTTLE W/A SMALL PAINT BRUSH ON IT.

DID THEY OFFER ANY DISCOUNTS DUE TO THE CONDITION OF THE APT.? DID YOU NOTE ALL OF THIS ON YOUR MOVE IN INSPECTION FORM? IF NOT MAKE A LIST OF EVERYTHING YOU FIND WRONG(DON'T GO OVERBOARD JUST WHAT THEY CAN CHARGE YOU BACK FOR WHEN YOU MOVE OUT)AND TURN IT IN TO THE PROPERTY MANAGER,HAVE HIM/HER TO SIGN IT AND PUT A COPY IN YOUR FILE. THE SINKS CAN BE REFINISHED IF PORCELIN, OR REPLCED,THEY'RE LESS THAN $30,I HAVE 25 PROPERTIES THAT I AM THE REGIONAL MAINT. DIR. AND THINGS LIKE THAT IS REPLCED PRIOR TO LEASING THE APT.
