How do you create a online group discussion/chat room?

I belong to a certain group and I want to take it to the next level by letting members and nonmembers talk to rach other without others knowing their ID---AKA---a chatroom or something.

I'm looking for a website like nicenet.org, maybe yahoo groups, etc.

Can anyone give me a list of good websites were I can create and manage a chatroom for my group?

The best way would be to start your own web site and set up a chat feature. This would not be free of course, but any free service you find will require people to log in using their IDs.
