Ocean waves my topic.

I'm doing an experiment where i use measurements of waves to make observations on wave behavior.

So for my experiment i need to make some quality waves...i tried using an oven glass tray thing filling it with water and then using a hardryer to create some waves..but the water just bounces off the walls of the glass tray.

I need your help.

How can i creat some waves with a bit of distance between them and some height.

  2. u need something at the bottem of the tank that will vibrate...do u need this for investigating light waves? if you do then what u r looking for should be a "ripple tank". if u just wanna create waves...then either make something that will make the container vibrate or just  fix something like a stick to a motor in such a way that it will poke the water. lol....sorry..cant really explain it...hope this helps

  3. If your water dish is deep enough, try getting a small wooden block. At one end, gently raise and lower the block in the water. This will cause waves.

  4. Since the waves reflect in your oven dish, perhaps you can treat them as seiches and measure the period (time it takes for the wave to travel from one end back to where it started). From the period, you can also determine other characteristics.

For instance, you know the depth of your dish. That gives speed, since seiches are shallow water waves.
