  1. You do not want top-spin it will suck the ball to the ground and you will end up with a 20 yard shot, not good.

  2. if you hit the ball correctly all you can do is limit backspin never hit the ball with top spin

  3. topspin is created by mishitting the club on the top half of the ball.  Not fun to hit and less fun to watch.  Some people think that they get topspin on a driver and that is why it rolls out nicely.  That is just the landing angle promoting the roll.  A driver hit with top spin will look ugly of the tee(knee high) and die quickly.  You will not be able to watch videos with top spin.

  4. I think perhaps what your talking about is getting the ball to "turn over".

This doesnt actually turn over nor does it have top spin. if this is the case your referring to a draw shot. Either left or right handed player will hit the ball from the inside out meaning the club traveling away from their bodies. This creates a spin for a right hander that would be inclined to turn counter clockwise and make the ball travel from right to left. When you do this the axis of the spin of the ball will turn much like a frisbee does when you throw it. It falls off to one side. Or skipping a rock, much the same, it doesn't stay flat. The ball travels the same way but in no way does it actually become top spin, it just merely rotates so that the ball has less direct backspin when it lands so that it will roll much further when it hits the ground since the resistance and backspin has turned slightly.

  5. You have to hit the ball at it's equator or even higher if you can to get topspin.  Even then the compression of the blade into the ball will get some backspin which is the only way the ball gets airborn, but then it will quickly turnover and dive into the ground.

  6. If you can learn to draw the ball that is the way to get forward roll. Also slightly roll your top hand over at or just after contact this will help. Changing swings is very hard.

  7. I've never heard of topspin using on a golf ball except on video games. Backspin is the most desired effect on a ball, since backspin makes balls fly farther, higher, and straighter. Being a hacker myself, I've seen/created topspin with a driver, and it's not a pretty sight. When you want a ball to run, you try and hit it in a way that either minimizes backspin, or uses a draw or fade to your advantage. If you want a source for aerodynamics of golf balls, Wikipedia.org might be a good place to start, and pga.com also has some great golf tips!
