How do you create your own animals for zoo tycoon 2?

i've been searching google for hours!

i have also been trying to find out how to create stuff on zt2 but this is what i do know about creating things

to create animals you need a program call A.P.E 2  people have said its more of a tutorial but i dont know

a program called 3d max or blender to mesh and skin the object

and ive heard that you can use ms paint to recolor animals

and note pad to code the objects
