  1. count back to the 4th chain from the hook, loop on the hook being One. yarn over, Stick the hook through the loop on that 4th chain, yarn over, pull back through, you now have 3 loops on the hook. yarn over and pull through 2 of the loops, yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops. Double crochet made.

Must always use chain 3 to stand the double crochet row up to proper height and it is usually counted as the first dc in the row.

  5. It depends on what you are making .To make a scarf, you would chain about 21. Then you would take the hook and stick it in the 20th chain and pull yarn through. do that all the way to the end. Then turn it and stick the hook through the second chain and pull the yarn through. Do this until it is as long as you want it. Then tie it off and work the ends into the scarf and you are done. You will have single crocheted a nice warm scarf. There are lots of stiches you can learn that make neat things. There are lots of books you can look at and check things out. They have pictures that show you how to do the stitches. There are websites too. I gave almost this same answer on here the other day! Lots of people must be wanting to crochet!
