How do you crop a picture for a background?

im in a band and im designing some flyers, cd covers, and things like that! i want to know how to take a pic(already on the computer) and crop it a cretain way so when you place it on a background, it looks like the band is really there! paint program dosn't do what im trying to do. I want to carefully cut around something so i can place it in the background so that the edges are perfect. can somebody please help me? is there a free program somewhere?

Photoshop is the best way to do this. You may check on the adobe website to see if they have a free trial. Otherwise it can get expensive. Check with your school, maybe the yearbook department has the program.

There are free sites like www.fotoflexer.com, but they are limited.

It isn't easy when you want the best that there is without paying for it.

The closest you'll get to photoshop that is free and legal, is the gimp. Steep learning curve but has tons of features.
