I've always had really straight hair and about 5 years ago i started to get layers to make it less stringy, But in the past every time i wanted to curl my hair it wouldn't last long or it wouldn't work at all. Does anyone know something i can do to my hair to make the curls stay?

  1. some hair just does not hold curls well. when you're curling you're hair, before you curl a section, spray it with hairspray and then spray it again after. also, i might be your curling iron.

  2. get paul mitchell's extra body moose, and paul mitchell's round trip. After you get out of the should towel dry your hair put the moose in and scrunch, get a diffuser for you blow dryer and dry the moister out. then put the round trip and finish drying with the diffuser. you'll have bouncy curly hair.

  3. if your hair is soo straight then wut you should do is take a shower & let your hair air dry.. then get your curling iron and curl your hair.. after everytime you curl a strand of hair put in a curler so that it will stay curled for a bit then hairspray the curlers and blowdry a bit.... but not too much it may melt!! ha.. then when your done with your entire head take the curlers out and hairspray once again

  4. use RAVE hairspray and spray it BEFORE you curl a 1" section of your hair... then use the iron on that area (preferably one of the irons w/ the metal rings going around it) then spray your hair after you do it. it shouldn't turn out crunchy or anything... dont use too much. but spray it from like 8" away from your head. good luck, you can do it! :)

  5. A lot of the time, straighteners work better for curling hair.

I use a sedu ceramic iron which works fantastic as both a straightener and a curling iron.

Also, don't use conditioner when you wash your hair.  It will make your hair more stringy.  Blow dry your hair, it tends to add more volume & make it more frizzy/less stringy.

Another option might be hot curlers.  My friend has straight hair that is fairly thin & stringy, and the hot curlers work wonders for her hair.  :)

  6. my hair is really long and fine, so the only time i've been able to get it to curl is with five people using curling irons and tons of hairspray at the same time. and even then (it was my wedding day), the humidity made a lot of it fall out within a few hours.

while i can't tell you how to curl your hair, i can give you tips for keeping straight hair healthy. here's a blog about it... let me know if it helps!

  7. I'm not sure exactly how long your hair is, but if its the length like your avatar has, then you might need longer hair.

But in general, always make sure you hair is clean and dry.  Try using curl prepping styling products.  Make sure that you have an updated curling iron, if its too old then it may not heat properly and you may be wasting your time.  Make sure to hold each ringlet for awile, sometimes with my hair I have to hold it for over a minute.  And make sure you use plenty of hairspray.  In the event your hair looks 'crunchy' from the hairspray, use a fine-tooth comb to gently brush through.  I have long hair, and it can take me an hour+ depending on how nice I want my hair to look, so take your time, and practice makes perfect!(:
