  1. SC_ski pretty much covered it. That's how we used to get the handles off of the trekking poles and ski poles where I used to work.

The only thing to worry about is sometimes the handle will slip a bit more because the diameter of the pole may now be smaller than the hole in the grip. If that's the case, a few well-placed drops of rubber cement will usually hold the grip in place.

Don't use epoxy because if you ever need to get the grip off again, the epoxy won't likely want to move. Rubber cement will come loose by soaking it in very hot water.

    -Good Luck!

  2. Do not put WD-40 on the pole. The best way to get off the handle is to soak it in hot water for 5-10 minutes then slide off the handle by sliding the handle into vices and pulling. If you don't have vices find a buddy. After that mark on both poles where you want them cut down too and then cut with a hack saw. That is how I cut down my leki poles. Be sure when you slide the handle back on that it goes on fully.

  3. WD40 sprayed around the pole into the handle, twist and pull it should come off. Do not use too much down the shaft or it will come off later when you don't want it to.  Cut the shaft with a hacksaw to the length you want and reinstall the handle by pushing it on and then ramming it on the floor handle first, until it is fully seated.

Enjoy the bumps, jumps and landings, avoid the snow snakes like crazy.

  4. I've just twisted the handles off... try putting some WD40 on the spot where the handle meets the pole and twisting or working the handle off in a twist-twist side to side motion.
