I have a roll of ground turkey in a roll, like breakfast sausage that you cut. The package says that it must stay frozen until ready to cook. But how do you cut it in slices to cook?

  1. You Don't. You will have to thaw it then cut it and use it all. If you want to cut frozen ground meat you will need a chain saw. My brother, when he worked at a Navy shipyard, brought home 20 lbs of frozen ground beef. We wanted to cut into usable size chunks. It took all night with a hack saw to get done. That is why I say a chain saw. A band saw may have done it.

  2. with a knife

  3. Thaw it out in the frige by putting it in it the day before you are going to cook it. Or microwave defrost it just before you cook it. Then slice it with a sharp knife on a cutting board.

The best way to cut frozen meat is to use a hacksaw with a new blade. I keep a clean one that I only use for meat.

  4. I buy ground meat on sale and cook all of it.  Then I package it in quart bags and freeze the bags.  Whenever I need ground meat for tacos, spaghetti, etc., I just get a bag out of the freezer, pop it in the microwave for about 4 minutes, and I'm done.  It saves SO much time.  BTW - have a happy bday.

  5. you thaw it then you cut it

  6. You don't - cutting frozen meat is very dangerous with a knife.

Meat packers do this with a band saw. One person above mentioned using a fresh hacksaw blade - that's not a bad idea.

You have to thaw it out before cooking it - I can't imagine that the ground turkey's instructions say to cook it when it's frozen?

  7. Cutting frozen meat is so dangerous that i've seen people nearly fired for attempting it...... if the roll is not precut for you take it to your local butcher and ask him to slice it on his fancy machine, other than that defrost it whole cut it into portions and cook each one half way to 3/4's done and cool then wrap and freeze for up to 2 months or place in the fridge and consume within a week! Please don't lose a finger cutting it with a serrated knife!! IF DESPERATE hold the log in a towel and put a towel on the counter as well and use a very sanitized saw to slowly cut through the log very slow is the key!!! and be safe

  8. Very carefully. Frozen meat is very difficult to cut especially if you don't have a very sharp knife. The blade can slip off and cut you badly. If you had an electric knife that would be ideal. Otherwise I would bring the roll out for a about 10 minutes before I cook it to let it soften up just a bit and use a bread knife that is one with serrated edge and use a very slow and steady sawing motion to cut it.

  9. You can thaw it out to cook it. You just need to leave it frozen until you are ready to eat it. Meaning don't let it thaw out, refreeze and thaw again. :)

It's almost impossible to cut frozen ground meat.
