How do you darken/dye canvas shoes?

i have some light brown canvas shoes, but my private school requires that they be dark brown

Are they made of cotton canvas, or another dyeable material such as linen or hemp canvas? If so, and if they are not water-resistant, then it's pretty easy to dye them using cool water fiber reactive dye. Do not use a hot water dye, such as Rit! Hot water will ruin your shoes.

You can't buy cool water dyes at the grocery store, but you can find them at your local crafts store. Look for Tulip One Step Fashion Dyes, Dylon Cold Water Dyes, or Procion MX dyes. If your local crafts store does not carry any of these brands, you can mail order Procion MX dyes from any of the dye supply companies in the second link below.

Needing to change the color will cost you more then buying another pair of shoes.I did look into it, and I try to save monies myself, but with the price of the dye, time, price of fuel running around for the dye to locate the correct color, my choice would be buying another pair of shoes. Good Luck
