How do you deal with loud people in the office?

I work in a cramped work environment (we're moving in 5 months). People have personal conversations loudly, scream to each other over cubicle walls (and they're not next to each other), and sometimes several people gather in one location and just all talk at once.

My boss has noticed that the volume has increased and mentioned this to the offenders, but they just got angry that someone tattled on them and then chatted about who they thought it was. It's pretty funny actually.

I bought headphones so that helps drown out the noise for me. Do you have a similar situation? What do you do to cope?

  1. I think it would make for a very funny movie!

But have a sense of fun....change the headphones to those red-ear muffle things men wear on construction sites...

They are great! and only cost under a few dollars.

They look like headphones of the  70's  but red!

It may get the message across?

  2. Yes. I use to work with FTD.com  (the flower place). Any who Everyone would chat really loud and it would disturb my concentration while on  the phone with a customer. However when they were on the phone with a customer they would put the phone on mute and yell across the room to be quiet! I'm the shy type. I guess you sometimes have to take the good with the bad.. I would just try to deal with the noise. Your boss should be the one telling them to be quiet. Cause the customer on the phone also could complain that she couldn't hear the rep. due to all the noise in the back round. If you want to be creative. You could call anonymously and complain. Tell no one about this either. Tell the manager that you called to order something and that all you heard was yelling and screaming in the back round and that you couldn't order anything due to not being able to hear the rep.

  3. sounds as though you have it under control. However, I would say that the office manager he/she needs to gain some control. This is not acceptable behavior for the work place. And obviously no one ever thought these individuals about inside voices.. LOL! Sorry for you. My thoughts are the office manager or someone higher will have this situation under control soon some may be fired.

  4. I generally just listen to my I-Pod and work. There is no need for you to complain about the situation as it has already been noted by the boss. Just continue to act in a  professional manner and do your job, and your supervisor will eventually grow tired of the repeat offenders and get rid of them if they continue to act like animals.

  5. play loud music will keep people from talking

  6. step in and tell them to shut the **** up! (:
