How do you deal with prank callers on cell phones?

someone is prank calling my girlfriend. however, they block their number when they call. What can be done to put an end to this childishness?

It's harassment and they can be arrested. Report them to the police. The police will then get your cell phone records and straighten everything out. You might have to do a lot of nagging, though - basically, make it so it's more of a pain in the *** for them to put up with you than it would be to investigate.

In the meatime, keep a record of the date and time of each call and what (if anything) is said.

If the number says blocked or does not show then she does not answer it. If she does not answer the prankster will get bored.

No need to get the law involved quite yet. She could call the cell company, ask for a different number and tell her contacts that she has a new number. Common practice and problem solved.

Sure it could be a random caller that likes the fact that she answers or has not bothered to change numbers. But you know most oft these calls are from someone one knows.

She should change her number if not answering does not work. If she changes and someone calls the new number then you will KNOW that it is someone with a beef.

You did not say how old you are nor did you say if you have heard messages. What time of day does the phone ring? Does she scoot off when she gets a call. Put in the back of your brain that you might be being played.

They can't block their number from the phone complany. Tell her to call her service provider as soon as it happens again. Tell them to report the number to the police..

Call up your phone company and ask if they have a 'call filtering' service. It always you to specify numbers from which you do not wish to receive calls. It works if you're receiving unwanted calls from the same number.

And, you'll screwed. Sadly, no phone company has the option to block a person from calling a particular number. When I had the same problem with a few ex girlfriends of mine I could only change the number. Lame, right?

I do not answer numbers that I do not recognize or wish to ignore.  They will get tired of going to voice mail. The silly thing is to answer it and yell at them. That just lets them know that they are getting to the person.  I do not know if she does this.  It is just a reminder for others who may read this.

get the call traced, if they dont block the number report it to the police, and if they blcok and continue, still report it, they can trace it.

In Canada it is illegal for someone to prank your cellphone or even for a telemarketer to call your cellphone.

Prankers can be charged for this act

and can also be sued for your cellphone bill

*69 will not work on a cell phone because A: cellphones dont have that feture and block numbers cant be *69'd
