“Each player must accept the cards life deals him or her: but once they are in hand, he or she alone must decide how to play the cards in order to win the game.”

I think its easier for some people to believe that they don't have a choice, their lives are predestined...and for others, believing that they do have a choice gives them the will and determination to go on...

Sometimes I think we don’t really have a say in what happens…but rather in how we deal with it or whether we accept it or not…..

We can’t change who we are (or what happens to us) but we can change who we are to become depending on what we learn from our experiences.

  1. I'm slightly fatalistic. I have seen my death, and it gives me comfort and courage, because it will not be from a horrible disease. I don't go out of my way to test this (such as doing overly risky things or stupid things); after all, I could be deluded and maybe fate doesn't exist at all.

  2. The idea of fate, to me, is exactly what it is.

When I think "fate", I think death, just like most people. But I know it's not completely about living and dying. Fat is a fancy, and spooky word, for future.

Whether you accept the idea of some external force controlling your life, or not, you can change it.

But you never know you do.

For instance, you coulb be set to be hit by a car one night while crossing the street, but you stop to pick up a penny, and a car zooms by in front of you. You'd never know if that vehicle was meant to kill you, or just something that was there.

I agree with the quote; “Each player must accept the cards life deals him or her: but once they are in hand, he or she alone must decide how to play the cards in order to win the game.” Yes, you are given paths in life, but not in such a way that you can't "trade in" your cards for new ones.

    I hope this helped!

  3. how do i deal with fate? Well, for starters fate is meant for it to happen that moment in time, Fate is what is destined to be... I agree about the cards. We're given cards or paths in life... they open up to us. it's our choice what we do with it. We can't change fate.. i mean, really, fate is going to happen and we are the ones who hold that card or "fate".  We don't have a say in everything we do, some things just happen. but for the things we can change, for the things we handle, we have the say it how it will work out. Fate isn't about death, it's about living, what will we do in life?  who's guiding us to our fate?  is it us, or is it a power of some sort?

Life is a journey... we can change who we are, we have the say in what we want or don't want. We learn from our trials and obstacles. nothing in life is a mistake. it's all about how to make it better next time.

  4. likes the idea of manifest destiny… if it is time for something to happen it will happen weather you’re the one to do it or he’s the one to do it… another thought we like to play with is the idea of parallel dimensions of fate… where every possible out come gets played out on our way to infinity…

  5. you can change fate, but not destiny

  6. The idea of Fate has always puzzled me.

If someone claims that they believe in fate, but then also believe they can change the course of their lives, then it seems to me they are living a contradiction. Fate, almost by its definition, is unchangable where we are merely insignificant pawns in some grand cosmic game.

On the other hand, bona fide fatalists are surely doomed to a life of inactivity and futility. If we are all born with a preordained and unchangable future ahead of us, then what is the point of our life and apparent choice? It seems to me that fatalism is utterly impractical and self-defeating.

The only way by which you can genuinely believe in fate is to do some classic "double think" where we have to pretend that our choices have worth. You have to believe we can change things, and live "as if" we are the author's of our own destiny, even if you actually think we're in the grips of fate.

The only way out I can see is if we assume that we have no genuine choices, and that even if we think "we could do otherwise" our minds are still fatalistically geared for the future. The problem I have, is that no one can honestly and wholehearted live like that, otherwise our existences become unbearable (in a practical and psychological sense).

  7. And on that note..I would have to say you've answered your own

question exceptionally well. Too bad you can't vote for yourself

    as Best Answer.

I concur; we can't control the circumstances nor the actions

of others which involve us either directly or indirectly. However, we are responsible for and should be in control of our reactions to such

stimuli which life whirls at us. For that, we're the governors of our own fates. Death is not a fate but the destiny of all humans. It's the mentality and perception about life which has to change. We can't

claim to be victims and still emerge as successful individuals. We

have to emerge to be successful in spite of the hands we've been dealt.

In Poker, the best hand doesn't always win..it's often the one who

has the best Poker face or mentality about life and their circumstances. Remarkable question! A star for you.
