How do you decarbonize a scooter ?

it runs like **** i just replaced the spark plug not getting top speed could the exaugst be blocked ?

  1. you need to flog it across the paddock mate.  you obviously don't ring its neck when you ride it right?


  2. Doubtful. I would be taking it to a shop and getting the carb adjusted.

    Check your air filter is clean too

  3. Try engine treatment (Seafoam works great).  Otherwise, the only way to manually decarbonize an engine is to pull the cylinder head and clean the cylinders.

  4. If the scooter's been doing short trips on mineral 2-stroke oil it could well be carboned up. Giving it a good thrash will help, but if it's affecting performance you will have to take the pipe off.

    Ideally you put an oxy-acetylene torch in it and burn it out, but failing that tip a bit of petrol in it, prop it up in a cement block, and let it burn. You'll perhaps have to re-light it, but it does work.  When it is working you can hear the cracking/burning of the carbon on the exhuast wall. After it's done and cooled, tap out the broken carbon.
