How do you decide when the time is right to put a cat to sleep?

When they can't function on their own or if they are constantly drugged up on pain killers. Seriously its the best thing to do if they can't walk around on their own or even hold themselves up to go to the bathroom properly.

when u can se its in pain and little things like if everyday life is a struggle for itself like being sick and going toilet everywhere and not being able to jump on and off things. after its done u greive for a bit then you come to terms and realise it was the right thing to do.

This will be a decision you will need to make in conjunction with your vet.  If you do not feel in your gut that the cat is ready, but your vet does by all means get a second opinion!!  When the cat's quality of life is completely compromised and he/she can no longer live a decent life, then it may be time but please be sure he/she is ready!!!  They will let you know.  Best of luck.

when your not sure if he can feel pain, if theres a doubt he not comfortable do the last bit of love you can do for him. sorry for you grief

It depends on the condition/disease the cat has.

I think when it gets to the point where the cat is spending most of his time crying, and laying around more than normal and you think his sense of sight and hearing is deteriorating, you should take him to the vet. the vet will usually give you his advice on when the right time to put him down is. but they leave it up to you.

When there is no longer any medication or things they can take to help ease their suffering.

And when you can see the sheer pain in their eyes.

I had to put my old Siamese to sleep, after he had tried every tablet and pill there was for him, and he started having fits.
