How do you decorate a townhouse?

I just got married and we bought a townhouse and I have no idea how I should decorate it. I know I like some modern things and some bright colors. Nothing retro or victorian! How do you start from scratch??? It seems too hard because if I go shopping for decor, I know I am going to see tons of thing I like and it may not all be in the same theme. I don't want anything to look tacky...

I understand your dilema - I opted for an all white scheme and natural wood and mixed modern with Vintage. It sounds like you have an idea just unsure how to create your look - i found looking at houses on the web such as realestate.com.au and domain.com.au was a great inspiration. Most furniture stores have a design consultant, give him or her some ideas of what you like and what your budget is and they can provide some alternatives.
