Then again, I think people are multi-dimensional, and many can have their times of dominance and submissiveness.

I'm just wondering what your definition is.

  1. One can be dominant without being domineering.

A dominant woman is one who can and does take charge in relationships and situations when the need arises.  She certainly is independent and self assured of her ability to make sensible and competent contributions to any situation.  She is not satisfied to simply be at the whim of bad decisions that concern herself and those she loves.  What keeps her from being domineering is she knows when to step aside and and carefully chooses her battles.

A domineering woman simply wants things her way and will bully, manipulate, and temper tantrum her way to getting it.  The decision or want doesn't have to be sound and usually isn't but that doesn't deter her trying to have it her way and the last say.

  2. Here's an example,

I compiled a study group for my Accounting class for our 1st exam. A girl in our class decided to email everyone & say that she didn't want to do the study group @ Barnes & Noble where I had first suggested. This kinda set me off & I emailed her telling her that the majority rules & that next time, we can study at her place.

    Dominant one: Me

    Domineering one: Her.

  3. hard trick to pull off in the modern world, they end up been something else.

but i say go for it if you can, its OK

  4. I don't really need to.  They define themselves with their own abrasive demeanor, contemptuous glares and self righteous attitudes.  Their belief that they are owed the universe, and expectations that others wait on them at their beck and call are also strong enough clues that seeking a definition becomes a moot point.

  5. Yes I definitely think people are multi demensional, especialyl depending on our mood. I love my hubby with all my heart and respect him completely, but in our relationship I am the dominant and he is the submissive. This is just the way we are naturally and has nothing to do with one being superior. But sometimes I like to be held in his arms while he comforts me .

  6. a domineering woman is someone that is naturally have a personality that desires to control everyone while a dominant woman is someone that stands out among others... dominant is someone who's noticeable, easily seen...

  7. An example would be ex UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher but her husband Dennis might have been boss in the bedroom. The same goes for the Queen and her husband. Everybody needs a balance in their life.

  8. I do not try to define that, as well as many other things.  But like the Supreme Court says, "You know it when you see it".

    I avoid domineering people altogether.

  9. My mother. But I still love her.

  10. In the business world, such a woman would be considered a success story.

In the sports world, such a woman would be considered a champion.

In a relationship, such a woman would be called an equal partner.

In the scientific world, such a woman would be considered a maverick.

  11. Domineering:  inclined to rule arbitrarily or despotically; overbearing; tyrannical.

Dominant:  ruling, governing, or controlling; having or exerting authority or influence.

It's not necessarily bad to be dominant, whether you're a man or woman - some situations call for it.  Domineering has more of a bad connotation - you wouldn't want to be called that whether you were male or female.

Both sexes should have times of dominance and submissiveness, because everyone has different areas of strength and weakness.

  12. A dominant women is assertive, ambitious, knows what shes wants and goes for it,and doesn't take any c**p from anyone.

Just because a women is domineering, that doesn't mean shes a b***h,a lot of people confuse dominant with bitchy.

  13. Pushy, bossy, bytchy, Complain ,complain. My way or no way.

You've heard the old saying "If she's not happy ,no one is."

One of the obvious indicators is when she is a poor listener, talking over others, finishing their statements. This is an indicator that she is far more concerned about what she has to say than what others are trying to say.

Second guessing others as if to say " Hold on , I know better than you ,so I'll tell you ."

And even if she can't steam roll others into obedience , then she will simply use manipulation and/or passive aggressive techniques to get her way.

In short it's a form of self importance that reflects that her wants far outweigh others.

  14. Hillary Clinton.

  15. My stepmother. She was a control-freak that ruined my wedding day by shouting at everyone after the reception, saying how selfish I was.

  16. Someone who is selfish, who does not see anybody else.
