How do you define prostitution?

Do you think it solely is the providing of sexual act for profit? Or do you definite it more generally to encompass wider variety of social sin in?

I think of prostitution as any act (or even chosen inaction) in which s*x, sexual promise, or sexuality is utilized as a tool to manipulate by appealing to instinct and thusly turn a personal profit.

•dancing provocatively for tip money at clubs

•modeling ones sexuality to sell a product or magazine

•withholding s*x in a relationship as leverage

•flirting to manipulate and achieve a goal other than forging a relationship

•accepting a larger tip than coworkers who deserve better, by allowing your guests to sexually objectify you instead of judge your performance unbaisedly.

And so many other examples in our society. Women have a tendency to rationalize the use of sexuality as a tool without the negative label of "sluut".

What are your thoughts?

  1. Selling real s*x for money. As opposed of selling a fantasy of s*x for money (p**n).

Interestingly enough prostitution is legal if you film the whole thing and publish it. It becomes p**n. Which is protected by the constitution of the USA. Freedom of speech.

  2. People that have s*x for money. Better than a s**t, they give it away to anybody and everybody for free. Dancing for tips is a job. Modeling is a job. Withholding s*x for leverage in a relationship is a game of manipulation. Flirting to manipulate and excepting larger tips is using the tools you were blessed with to get ahead in life. If the people who are being abused don't mind, why should you care, you don't really think these people are being taken advantage of do you? They know exactly what is happening and they enjoy it. I don't agree with prostitution, or being a s**t, but the things you describe aren't S****y, although they do demean women and portray them as objects, but I think our society has risen above that mentality. Your just jealous. By the way, I've never done any of those things because I've never been forced to, except maybe manipulate within a maritial structure, but I've known many who have been forced to make it alone and raise a child, with little education and no money, I'd rather see them make their way dancing in a club than abort their child. I have more respect for a prostitute than an abortionist. Thank you very much. Who are you to judge? ;-)

  3. People can prostitute themselves in ways other than sexually for money.

It's often said, for example, that the architect Albert Speer prostituted his great talent by designing monumental-style buildings for the n***s.

However, in terms of the criminal law, I think you will find prostitution is almost always defined, in western countries as an exchange of s*x for money.

The definition is much wider in some non-western countries, where even being raped in the absence of four male witnesses can be considered prostitution and punishable by imprisonment.

Like many terms which mean one thing in law and are widely used in a more pejorative sense (frequently incorrectly) in the community, it also tends to mean whatever the user wants it to, which is most often something insulting to another person.

    Cheers :-)

  4. I see your point and have not much more to add.

However, you failed to mention the rationalization of some women or men to get married primarily on the basis of money.

These are all socially accepted manners of prostitution, only not admited as such.

    Let's get real!

    Why don't we?

  5. I think you've over thought this ... You need a hobby.

Prostitution is selling s*x for money ... be it male or female.

  6. Nope. It's s*x for money. That's it.

  7. Prostitution is the business of selling s*x for money or some other gain.

Be aware also that prostitutes can also be men who sell to men or to women, or sometimes to either gender.

  8. I look up the relevant statutes in the Criminal Code of Canada.  You should learn to do likewise instead of... whatever this is supposed to be.

  9. I think prostitution is a temporary relationship formed between two or more persons purely for s*x and material gains.

    hence

•dancing provocatively for tip money at clubs - No s*x - No Prostitution

•modeling ones sexuality to sell a product or magazine - No s*x - No Prostitution

    •withholding s*x in a relationship as leverage - No s*x - No Prostitution

•flirting to manipulate and achieve a goal other than forging a relationship - No s*x - No Prostitution

•accepting a larger tip than coworkers who deserve better, by allowing your guests to sexually objectify you instead of judge your performance unbaisedly - If allowing to sexually objectify means you promise s*x, then it is prostitution

In all other cases, there was no promise of actual s*x and nobody expected to have real s*x with the party.  Hence it is not prostitution.

If a male dress up as a female and offer s*x for money as a scam, it is prostitution since there was the offer of s*x and the other party was ready to pay for the s*x.
