    All living things have 6 major characteristics:

    1. Have the ability to reproduce

    2. Can respond to stimuli

    3. Can adapt to change in their environment

    4. Can maintain homeostasis

    5. Have the abiltiy to grow

  3. All living things undertake respiration (oxidization of fuels), food intake (getting materials to burn), growth (mass increment), reproduction (ability to leave copies of itself). All of this characteristics involve metabolism, which is common to all life in earth.

    Not all living beings move, or reproduce, or respond to stimuli, but most do.
