How do you delete a write protected file on a flash drive?

my flash drive has no security switch and i've tried to go to properties and the read only is off but it's archived and cant be unarchived. every time i try to unarchive it i get an error message that says it is write protected

  1. You may need to use the command prompt to unlock it.  Go to Start > Run > type cmd > click OK.  In the command prompt, go to your flash drive by typing the drive letter for your flash drive and hit Enter.  The type attrib *.* and hit Enter.  That will list the attributes of each file, you'll see letters that give the attributes.  a=archive, h=hidden, r=read-only, s=system, etc.  If it's read-only, you need to remove that.  Type attrib -r (insert file here) and hit Enter.  (Example: attrib -r file.ext).  You can then modify the file.

  3. my flash drive has the same problem, i dont think theres anything you can do. if your flash drive has a lot of memory, ignore the files and it shouldnt be a problem.  if your flash drive doesnt, get a new one. you'll need lots of memory sometime, especially if this problem keeps happening
