  1. Reinstall the operating system.

However, MAKE sure you have everything backed up.  It sometimes can be recoverable, but its difficult and time consuming!    So all of your files and pictures and things that you want to save will be gone after you do!

  2. Reformatting doesn't delete EVERYTHING.  Writing zeros to the hard drive does.  Although reformatting and reinstalling the operating system is probably enough to meet your needs.

EDIT-- How to reinstall the operating system?  The quickest thing to say is to call the mac tech support and have them walk you through it.  That is, if they do that sort of thing....I don't know much about macs.

TO CLARIFY--  Reformatting does delete everything as far as you're concerned, so make sure you back up important files (documents, music, pictures, etc.) before you reformat.

  3. Reinstall your operating system.

  4. you can format the HD and reinstall the OS, that would clear everythign out and bring it back to new!
