How do you deter skunks from prowling around your neighborhood?

Recently there have been two incidences where skunks have sprayed near my house... being summer and having our windows open, the scent wafts into our house. Is there anyway to prevent skunks from roaming around our neighborhood. We have a few stray cats and I have a feeling that when the two meet, that's when the spraying occurs. Anyone have any ideas- the stench is awful!!

If you've got any old perverts around the neighborhood, get them to have s*x with the skunks.  Skunks are pretty smart and after a few times they'll just steer clear of the neighborhood with the creepy old man that has s*x with them.

the skunks are looking for food.  if you or the neighbors leave out dog and cat food you are putting out a welcome mat for the skunks and racoons and rats, plus who know what else.  i will take everyone co-operating to fix this.  its all but impossible.  there is always someone who doesnt care about anything.

Well, I've heard that the skunks come into our yards during the night to eat grubs...so I've been using a grub control granule--hopeful to keep them from wanting my lawn!
