How do you determine if a compound(ionic/covalent) is soluble in water by just looking at its formula?

  1. There are some general rules about which inorganic salts are water-soluble, but there are many exceptions

    Your teacher may have been talking about specific compounds which are always soluble such as ammonium salts and hydrated salts (they already have bound water in their crystal structure)
