How do you determine if someone is "educated"?

Its hard to say, educated is different from being intelligent - being educated means you have a decent education, but being intelligent is just by having an all-round knowledge.  An 'educated' person would, in my opinion, be someone who has a university degree - but a lot of people I know with a degree are far from intelligent!  It's a funny one, good question!

They way they carry themselves, they way they behave and how mature they seem. What job they do and what they frame of mind is-an educated person cannot afford to be lazy because they know money does not grow on trees etc.

by seeing if they can hold an intelligent conversation. i know many people in college who i feel are uneducated. they get good grades because they memorize the professor's lectures and notes, but they are gravely incompetent when it comes to debating and arguing. even when it comes to things like science and accounting, they cannot competle labs properly or figure out real-world scenarios but are always able to 'fill in the blank' on a test.

by how intelligent they are at what they do...book smarts aren't the only smarts to be valued..

its not the sheep's skin or how they say words, its what information comes out of their mouths.......

I once hear a man with a deep southern accent explain Einsteins theory of relativity, and he had horrible grammar, but he was dead on with his explaination

I'm not in college but I always educated myself.  I don't need to wait for intellect to be read or feed to me.  I'm working to do a one year course though.

Well, Matthew P pretty much said it all. There really isn't a way to tell if someone is educated, without the factors you mentioned. And besides, people have their own definition of what educated/intelligence is.
