On my Grandfathers Declaration of Intention and Pettition For Citizenship it states his place of birth was Stvrtek Czech Slovakia. On one of his daughters birth certificates it states his place of birth was Trencin Region Hungary Europe. On his Social Security Card Form it states his place of birth was Bohemia. I was told that I need to determine what village he came from before I can research any information about him and his family. Based on what I have, how do I determine what village he came from?

  1. I think I would go with Stvrtek.  I'm sure GF was aware this was an "official" document and he was probably young enough to remember his home.  Soc. Sec--General location, as well as possibly the B. Cert. There's a site "CGSI" The Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International.  Oddly enough, when I looked there was a query about some family in STVRTEK !!!

  2. You'll have to search back on the censuses and then through parish records. You may not find where your ancestors ORIGINALLY came from, but you'll get back pretty far.

Otherwise you can search for his birth certificate. On the certificate, it will detail his place of birth, and his parents names, if not more information.
