How do you differentiate theoretical framework to conceptual framework ?

  1. A conceptual framework is, generally, something you develop as you pursue inductive research.  An example is Julian Steward's "cultural ecology" or Karl Marx's 'dialectical materialism'

    A theoretical framework is a more formal model which allows for hypothesis testing through its implications. Examples -  equilibrium/stasis models used by some evolutionary biologists and site location modeling used by archaeologists.  


  2. Conceptual framework is basically defining terms - what you think MIGHT be happening. Theoretical framework further sets it up in a way it becomes testable.
