How do you discipline your kids?

When I was young my mum whipped me over her knee and smacked me hard and I do the same to my kids. They are not embarrassed as all their friends get smacked aswell. Yesterday when I was in the school playground collecting one of my daughters, her friend had her bottom bared and was smacked extremely hard and her bum was very very red afterwards. All of the kids acted like normal as they knew if they did anything or said anything they would be stripped and spanked aswell....I think this is absolutely correct?? don't you smack your children?

Im not a parent, but my little azz gets a bare bottom session with a hairbrush until I cant sit if I did something really bad, but never, never in public.

Little kids on the school playground are waaaaaay too young to have their pants pulled down and spanked like that. You should have called the police.

Furthermore, I really dont believe your story and I hope you stay away from playgrounds.

I don't necessarily agree with the baring part but I do spank my son. I talk to him first and give him three warnings before the actual spanking as they do tend to have short attention spans and only remember through reinforcement. There are also times when a child knows something is not permissible and will try it to test his boundaries this may result in a smack on the hand. Spanking is permissible within reason but it shouldn't be the only form of discipline. Talk to them and explain what the wrong action is and why, so that they can understand.

Er, no. Humiliation is not good. My kids got a quick cuff when they were too young to 'discuss' things with. Now a warning growl is enough. I would never have bared their bum in public.

I would never hit my children... I don't believe in hitting or spanking at  any kind... I would just give my kids warnings and time out, I also will cut their allowance, privileges and outings if that is needed...

I was on my way taking my kids to Canada's wounder land - all of a sudden my son and his cousin started acting out in the car after I bought them McDonald's, and a 4 hr drive - i warned them 3 times to stop or i will turn around and go home... We ended up turning around after half way there... They learn their lesson - my kids are well behaved and they know when they get punished thy miss out inalot..

Not at all.  I do not hit my son, just as I expect he will not hit other people.

I actually take the time to discipline and instruct him, rather than trying to correct his behavior out of violence and instilling fear into him.

I am not in the states, but I'm pretty sure that it is not ok to hit your kids until their bums get very very red afterwards.

Either way there are acceptable ways and unacceptable ways to punish a child. you should really consider reading up about these ways.

Depends on their age, and the amount of times they have been told not to do something! What they did! And if everything else has failed!

Like saying no! Taking toys off them ! Them being taken away from a situation!

My younger ones do get smacked hands! Esp my 2 yr old who has a terrible habit of throwing heavy toys etc at peoples head! Obviously, my 6 yr old rarely gets smacked, and my 13 and 16 yr olds don't at all! They get their privileges taken off them! But sometimes only a smack will work! However it is always the last resort, and when they are doing something that can hurt someone else or themselves!

I very very rarely smack my child and only to stop her from injuring herself or others after repeated warnings. I thinks it's horrific to discipline a child by publicly humiliating them by baring their bottom and smacking them in front of their friends. This is abusive behaviour and will breed a generation who will do likewise with their children. I think this question has been posed to provoke outrage just for fun, unless you live in h**l I cannot imagine any community all condoning and replicating such negative behaviour towards children

I spank my daughter and I put her in timeout. I never take her pants off when I spank her though never in the house or in public. I was spanked growing up and I wasn't embarrassed but then again I never got a spanking in public.

Baring a childs biottom and smacking it in front of the school is wrong. Any chastising should be done where the child will not be humiliated. How would you like it done to you in front of all and sundry?

I dont smack my son...I have done a few times when he was small when safety was an issue but he never reacted well to it or improved his behavior. Removing favourite toys and taking away privalidges works much better.
