How do you disconnect a phone line from your computer?

You did not specify the Operating System, but for Windows XP:

Control panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Ports > right click on desired line > disable

For software:

Control panel > Add or Remove Programs > find program to remove > click it > remove

You disconnect it by simply unplugging the wire. You dont need to do anything else, the dial up modem software comes with your computer, and its not hurting it or taking up space if you arent using it.
