How do you disinfect a wound?

Question

The spray plaster states not to apply to infected wounds, how do i disinfect the wound? And how do you know if it is infected?

I was thinking of using Anticeptic wipes.

I have a blister type wound, it wont stop bleeding (very little bleeding) it basically just will not heal. Any tips on how to disinfect it before i apply the spray plaster, thanks.

(I am using the tcp spray plaster, i noticed that this is different to the elestoplast spray plaster, and can be used on blisters.)

i had a similar problem, a blister on my toe that would not heal. I used savlon Antiseptic cream. It healed up in a week

The antiseptic wipes are good. As long as the wound is dry, so the spray plaster sticks to the skin, there is no reason why you cannot use them. The spray plaster is airtight and may seal bacteria in, if the wound is not properly cleaned first. If it doesn't heal maybe you should check with your doctor. Are you a diabetic?  If so, you may need some proper medical advice.

wash a wound with water and soap if you can bear it. put some spray over and cover it. do not pierce a blister, cover it and leave it alone. signs of skin infection are bright red, hot, painful surrounding skin to initial wound, oozing yellow or green pus and a unpleasant smell and would need an antibiotic to cure it, if ignored it could then spread to surrounding skin, and even lead to high fever and then blood poisoning but it would give rise to many un-ignorable symptoms before that stage and you would be infused with an antibiotic drip in hospital if it was that worst case scenario. My brother himself, picked a scab off and it became infected over the course of about a week, he was an adult and he had the septicaemia stage thought it was just  a normal cut , but at some point it was infected. he had an overnight hospital stay , as he is prone to dry skin and always has flare ups of eczema.

thats simple you first rinse the wound water then apply iodine gv

Soap and water is as good a means as any.  Wash with a clean swab, dry with a clean swabs.

If the wound is really infected you would do better to see your pharmacist or doctor.

I always get cuts and bruises and the best thing to do is put Savlon on it! It really works and heals things extra fast!

You will be able to tell if your wound is infected because it will sting, be very red round the edges, swollen, warm and may have a lot of yellow puss around it. If it doesnt look like any of the above is present dont wipe it with anything, just place a plaster on it because the more stuff or more times u wipe it ur disturbing the growth of new tissue.... if it does look like it may be infected then i suggest you buy a antiseptic spray but try not wipe it because u may spread the infection! hope this helps and it heals soon! x

for a blister that won't stop bleeding put a bandage around your leg where the blister is and on the blister that should stop the bleeding. when the bleeding stops put something on it like neosporin or witch hazel.

I've always favoured the method adopted by cowboys. Whereby you douse the wound liberally with whiskey then seal it shut with a heated knife blade. Smarts a little but much less fussy than all this business with plasters and tcp

Yes, you can use antiseptic wipes, or just bathe with salt water, you would know if it was infected by looking at it, it would be pus filled, redness around it, and sore etc!!
