Question:

How do you dispose of bullets properly?

I found a box of unused bullets in my safe that used to belong to my deceased husband. I want to throw them away, but it occured to me that if they used any kind of heat or high pressure process when they process garbage, that the bullets might blow up and hurt someone. It may seem like a silly question, because I can't imagine what my other options would be. But I just don't wan't to risk anyone getting hurt, so does anybody know? It may be more a question of "what happens to residential garbage after they pick it up?" And they cetainly aren't biodegradable either, so does anyone know the proper way to throw these away?

  1. I think maybe your local police station maybe could use them...

  2. either take them to the police or ask the police what to do with them, they will probably dispose of them for you.

  3. Leah,

The police have enough ammunition to shoot us up with!  Don't give them to the police for heaven's sake!  Don't encourage those devils with badges!  Besides, that ammunition may not be in the proper calibur for the police.

Call your local gun club or shooting range and take the box to someone at either of these institutions.  Tell them you'd like to donate the ammunition for someone to practice with.  Get a receipt from them, and you're done.

This both solves your problem and honors the memory of your late husband by allowing those rounds to be fired off like he originally intended.
