How do you dispose of plastic lids?

We try to reuse or recycle our plastics, but we use a lot of milk in plastic jugs, and have a lot of caps that do not have a #1 or #2 on them--those are the #s that our recyclers take. Is it okay to put them in with the other plastics?

  1. Another member said that he uses them as filler in the bottom of his flower pots, and I like the idea so much that I've been saving them ever since.  They make for good drainage, weigh less than gravel and won't end up in the landfill.  Plus, when I empty my pots into the compost at the end of the season, I'll be able to pick out the caps to reuse the following year.

  2. My city collects #1-7 so rinse and we throw the whole item in (lid and all).  Check with your local recycler to make sure. Every city may have different rules.  Sometimes your local elementary school may want items like that for art.

  3. I Stuff the milk tops inside the milk jug. I recycle everything regardless of the #. In my city it cost $2.00 for a trash sticker.(then you put the sticker on your trash bag/ bucket)

  4. I just eat them.

  5. i keep a coffee can at my desk and in my kitchen for lids. i don't know about milk jugs, but you can save the ones from water bottles and turn them in at an aveda counter and they'll use the lids for their products and you get a free gift!
