  1. At our house we use Teaching Textbooks, with the CDs:

  2. My kids used saxon algebra as their first math textbook.  It was quite simple and within days they were flying through the book.  It really made me realize how much time is uselessly spent in grade school.

    Good luck :d

  3. I use Saxon Algebra. It can be difficult if you have not done Algebra 1/2 first though -but it is a good system. Also if you decide to do Saxon get the solutions manual -it will walk you through each problem.Good luck.

Also consider looking to see if your state has a Virtual Instruction Program. I live in Missouri and it has MoVIP.It is just school on the internet.

  4. We use Saxon math -- starting with Math 54 and working up to Algebra 1/2, then Algebra 1 and Algebra 2.

  5. Math comes easy to me.  When my children need help, they come ask me.  We are currently using singapore math textbooks.  However, I've heard good things about teaching textbooks and am considering a change.

  6. My son is doing Algebra I from Teaching Textbooks.  It's great:

Another great, and cheap text is Kinetic Books:

My son will use that for Physics in the fall.

  7. I found Saxon math terrible. My mom switched to the "Keys to..." series for algebra I, II and geometry. I then took Trig and Calc 1 as concurrent enrollment classes at my local community college. The "Keys to..." series was great, because the teacher didn't need much background in math to make it work.

  8. I used an ordinary Glencoe textbook combined wtih the Highschool Advantage Algebra CD-ROM and a number of websites.

Next year toug I'm planning on useing Math-U-See, or a similar program for Pre cal

  9. We use VideoText Algebra - it's a little pricier, but well worth it.  The way that it's presented makes it a lot easier to understand, and the order that it's taught in makes a lot more sense.  Instead of Pre, Alg 1, and Alg 2, it's a comprehensive 2-3 year Algebra program that goes all the way through.  (They offer the same type of setup for Geometry/Trig/Pre-Calc.)

  10. i used the saxon algebra textbook...it was really easy to understand

    p.s. i am 13

  11. I would sit, in a chair, in a classroom, in a school I would then listen to the teacher, cause afterall they are ment to be teaching.

    Usually they use a textbook.

  12. I taught Algebra I at home using Thomson Effortless Algebra and we both liked it and understood the material.

My 9th grader is taking Algebra II in a coop.  They are using Prentice Hall Mathematics - Algebra II.  I would not recommend the textbook although it does give access to some good online lessons.

Geometry next year will also be through our local coop.  More advanced math will be through a community college.

  13. I'm taking a intermediate Algebra class at a local community college, as part of a High school enrichment program they offer. So far this is my second class there and I've had a great time. I'm still being homeschooled too, BTW.
